Keke Rosberg of Finland announced he will retire from auto racing at the end of the season, and then a few hours later sped to a record time during qualifying for Sunday’s German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, West Germany.
Rosberg had a lap speed of 1 minute 42.478 seconds to break the record of 1:47.012, set last year by his teammate, world champion Alain Prost. Rosberg’s average speed was 148.368 m.p.h.
