Seal Beach : Council Will Discuss Developing School Site

The City Council Monday will discuss the possibility of buying and redeveloping the site of the Zoeter Elementary School property.

The school, on 4.9 acres at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and 12th Street, has been closed since 1982.

The council will discuss the feasibility of buying the land for $3.5 million by selling general-obligation bonds and the impact of such a plan on the city’s tax rates, City Manager Bob Nelson said.

“Right now we’re talking about acquisition,” he said, adding that no specific uses for the land have been determined.

A third of the property, now a playing field, would remain open space, Nelson said. The rest might be used for homes or businesses.

Nelson indicated, however, that the initial intention to use the entire area as public open space may be reconsidered.
