‘Demeaning Our Own Values’

If I understand Goodwin’s article regarding a “Class Society,” 60% of the people in this country receive about 33% of the national income. These are, of course, the lower-income families. The top 40% receive 67% of the national income.

It occurs to me that the Fed’s attempt to stimulate the economy by putting more money out there might not get the desired results. How can all those people with low income (60%) buy anything but food and shelter? The other 40% are probably pretty well saturated with the products that need to be sold to make this economy go.

Perhaps Washington should go back to the drawing board. I mean it is one thing if the bottom 60% live in “quiet desperation.” It is quite another if this should affect the affluence of the rest, isn’t it?
