What: Nike Horney Toad Triterium

Where: Oceanside Municipal Pier

Time: 11 a.m.

Who to watch: Scott Tinley (Encinitas), Scott Molina (Del Mar) and Mark Allen (Del Mar) in the men’s race. Linda Buchanon (Leucadia), Colleen Cannon (Del Mar) and Joanne Ernst (Pao Alto) in the women’s race.

Course: 32.2 miles total.

Swim: Beginning at the north side of the pier, competitors will swim around the end of the pier, return to shore, run north across the sand, and repeat once. Transition in the Strand Amphitheater grass area, located on the south side of the pier. Total distance: 1.2 miles.

Bike: Course heads north on The Strand to Sixth Street, east up a small hill, then turns south on Pacific Street. Travels south approximately two miles to Myers Street, up another small hill, then south to Eaton Street. Course turns and heads north on Pacific Street to Wisconsin Street, west on Wisconsin to The Strand, then north on The Strand past the start-finish area. Each lap is five miles. Total distance of five laps: 25 miles.

Run: Course heads north on The Strand to Sixth Street, east up a small hill, then south on Pacific Street to First Street. Travels west to The Strand then north to the start-finish area. Each lap is just more than one mile, and runners pass through the transition area at each lap’s conclusion. Total distance of six laps: 6 miles.

Best Location: Spectators on the pier will see the triathletes make 25 passes through the start-finish line.

Directions: Take Interstate 5 to Mission Avenue. Go west on Mission Avenue and turn right on Hill Street. Proceed one block to Third Street and turn left. Proceed toward the beach and the pier. Parking areas will be designated.

Prize Money: Total purse of $17,500. Top 10 in men’s and women’s divisions finish in the money, with winners earning $2,800 apiece.
