Michael Mudd, formerly with Fullerton’s Community Services Department, today assumes his post as arts and cultural affairs manager for Huntington Beach.

In the newly created position, Mudd will oversee cultural events and programs for the city. Specific responsibilities will be spelled out after Mudd begins the job, but may include development of a cultural center for the city, said Max Bowman, Huntington Beach director of community services.

“When he comes aboard, he and I will be working together very closely to determine the cultural needs of the community,” Bowman said in a telephone interview.

In 1979, an arts advisory board to the Huntington Beach City Council was created, and later the city hired a part-time arts coordinator. Mudd was chosen as the city’s first full-time arts and cultural affairs manager after a statewide search, said Bowman.
