Santa Fe Springs : Trucking Terminal’s Fate
In an effort to speed up construction of Phase II and III of the Heritage Corporate Center, the City Council voted last week to obtain bids to demolish a trucking terminal on the 67-acre property.
But the council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, also held out hope that a firm would rent the facility for a period of one year or less, said Richard Weaver, director of planning and development.
The terminal is on the corner of Norwalk and Telegraph boulevards. The corporate center, which will be the biggest in the city’s history, will eventually house office buildings, restaurants and light industrial buildings.
The terminal brings in about $400,000 annually to the agency in rentals. However, the staff recommended demolition of the 100-door terminal to quicken the building process, Weaver said. Phase I, which consists of 13 buildings, is already under way.
The city will continue to look for firms that will rent the facility until Aug. 1987, when it is to be demolished.
