Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn asked the FBI to join the search for the so-called Southside Serial Killer, blamed by police for the murders of 17 to 19 young women. Hahn said he has asked FBI Director William Webster to employ that agency’s “expert knowledge and outstanding crime labs” to help Los Angeles police and county sheriff’s officers. A Los Angeles City Council committee, meanwhile, was to explore the possibility that federal crimes are involved in the slayings, thus allowing FBI participation. Councilman Robert Farrell also said he wants the city to increase the $25,000 reward it has posted.
