West German police arrested one of six Arabs sentenced to prison in absentia for their part in the Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking, police in Rome and West Berlin reported. The suspect was identified as Ahmed Youssef Saad, 23, a Palestinian born in Lebanon. Prosecutors in the Achille Lauro trial called him the “official paymaster” of the terrorist operation. Last month, a Genoa court sentenced Saad to 6 1/2 years in prison for complicity in last October’s hijacking of the Italian cruise ship during which an American passenger, Leon Klinghoffer, was killed.
