Hundreds Flee Acid Leak After Lightning Hits Plant

CHAPIN, S. C. —
Lightning struck a tank at the Suffolk Chemical Co. plant and sent a cloud of hydrochloric acid across residential neighborhoods Friday, injuring three workers and forcing hundreds of people from their homes, authorities said.
