District Attorney Deserves Thumping

Share

Dist. Atty. Ed Miller’s sanctimonious defense of his questionable actions in the Sagon Penn case has an unconvincing ring. It took 12 days for his office to bring the court evidence of the most urgent and critical order.

The police document confirming Agent Donovan Jacobs’ racist tendencies could have been read in five minutes, the paper work done in an hour, and its history ascertained in--at most--another another hour or two. That document was withheld from the court by the district attorney for obvious reasons--it would have been the straw that broke the prosecution’s case, a case weak at best.

Had the document been of help to the district attorney, it would have appeared in the court in a timely manner; had the juror who refused to abide by a provisional decision been in favor of conviction, you can be rest assured that the district attorney wouldn’t have been so quick to investigate. Ed Miller’s righteous indignation has a hollow ring. It might be time for the fellow to start thinking about returning to private practice.
