The United Auto Workers and Chrysler Corp. reached tentative agreement on a contract for 2,500 union members at a planned plant in Huntsville, Ala.

UAW Vice President Marc Stepp said Friday that the multiyear agreement will take effect in the spring of 1989, when Chrysler is to open the new plant.

The tentative pact is to be submitted to members of UAW Local 1413 on Aug. 10. It offers substantial wage increases and reduces job classifications, according to the union.
