A car bomb exploded outside a military barracks in Santiago, Chile, killing the driver and injuring three other people. The car apparently blew up before reaching its target, police said. Soldiers in the barracks were allegedly involved in the death of Rodrigo Rojas de Negri, a 19-year-old Chilean. The youth, who had been living with his exiled mother in Washington, reportedly was doused with gasoline and set afire by soldiers during a demonstration July 2. His female companion was critically burned. No one claimed responsibility for the car bomb.
