James E. Haden has been named president...

James E. Haden has been named president and chief executive officer of Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina by the hospital board of trustees. Haden received an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a graduate degree from UCLA. He previously served as associate administrator at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena and was employed at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach.

Daniel A. Mazmanian of Claremont has been appointed to the newly established Luther Lee Chair in Government at the Claremont Graduate School. Mazmanian will direct the school’s programs in government, criminal justice, international relations and public policy. Mazmanian received his doctorate in political science at Washington University in St. Louis and served as director of public policy analysis at Pomona College in Claremont for 12 years.

Michael A. Cappeto has been named dean of students at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont. Cappeto previously served as associate dean of students at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He holds a doctorate in counseling and student personnel services from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Linda Brownridge of Pasadena has been reappointed to a one-year term as president of the UCLA Art Council. The council is a support group for the university’s visual arts programs and provides volunteer and financial assistance for the school’s museums, art library, gallery and art department.

Donald McIntyre has been named one of the top 10 professors in the United States by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. McIntyre, a geology professor at Pomona College in Claremont, was similarly honored in 1985.

Arthur D. Zahniser, a retired minister who resides in San Dimas, has been reappointed to a three-year term on the Los Angeles County Commission on Alcoholism by Board of Supervisors Chairman Pete Schabarum. The commission advises the board on the goals and policies of county alcoholism programs.

Joan E. Long of Upland has been appointed director of admissions and financial aid at the Claremont Graduate School. Long previously served as assistant dean and director of admissions at the University of Dayton.
