Albania, by choice one of the world’s most isolated nations, opened its first railway link with the rest of Europe. Albanian and Yugoslav officials observed the occasion by hoisting snifters of Albanian brandy at Titograd, just across the border in Yugoslavia. The 40-mile rail link connects Titograd with the Albanian town of Shkoder. An Albanian diplomat said the line will be used only for cargo, including exports of minerals and farm produce. “No passenger coaches are planned initially,” the diplomat said.
