IS HE FINN-ISHED?

Share

Martin Bernheimer made my Finnish-born blood boil when he had nothing good to say about Finnish conductor Paavo Burglund at a recent Hollywood Bowl concert (“Berglund in Debut at the Bowl,” July 24).

Now, less than a week later, he again vents his spleen and insult on Finland’s Aulis Sallinen and his opera “The King Goes Forth to France,” per his review (“Premiere of Sallinen’s ‘King’ in Santa Fe,” July 29).

Ridiculing a world-acclaimed composer of Sallinen’s stature gives reason to believe Bernheimer suffers from the old Lillian Hellman anti-Finn syndrome, and, if so, he can take a long walk on a short pier, as far as the world’s Finns are concerned.
