Vandals caused up to $70,000 in damage at the Beaulieu and Beckstoffer vineyards in the Napa Valley, destroying 80 rows of Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapevines scheduled to be harvested within two or three weeks. An estimated 850 Beaulieu and 300 Beckstoffer vines were cut, rendering the costly grapes useless for wine making, according to one vineyard official. Police said they had no clues. Both vineyards have been negotiating new contracts with the United Farm Workers.
