Queen Has Heart Tests at Hospital, Paper Says
Queen Elizabeth II underwent secret heart tests at Britain’s top cardiac hospital amid tight security early Tuesday, the Sunday Mirror said in an edition distributed Saturday.
The queen, 60, was driven from Buckingham Palace to central London’s National Heart Hospital at 6:30 a.m. for the tests, the paper said.
“Basic heart tests can be carried out on EKG machines at Buckingham Palace. It is clear the queen underwent tests requiring the most sophisticated equipment,” the newspaper said.
The paper quoted Buckingham Palace press officer Victor Chapman as saying: “The queen underwent routine tests earlier in the week. I cannot tell you what the tests were for.”
