The World : U.S. Family Escapes Bomb

An American family of five escaped death or injury when a bomb exploded under their car in a parking lot in Hanau, West Germany, while they were attending a local festival 100 yards away, police said. The explosion ripped open the car, blowing away its doors and fenders but causing no casualties. The car carried U.S. military plates issued to American service personnel and their dependents in West Germany. The family’s identity was withheld, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
