The Irvine Co. has named Jeffrey A. Zakaryan, a former Fluor Corp. marketing specialist, as its new director of public relations. Also, David Johanson has been named director of construction for the giant land developer’s new Irvine Hotel Co. subsidiary.

Zakaryan joined Fluor in 1981 as marketing staff manager and director of marketing communications. From 1971 to 1981 he held various communications positions with the Southern California Gas Co. and served with Dunn Properties Corp., an affiliate of the gas company, as advertising and public relations manager.

In his new position, Zakaryan takes over the duties performed by Dan Carlsson, the company’s former manager of public relations who left to become a partner at Portmann Communications in Irvine. Zakaryan also will be in charge of creating a corporate communications plan for the company.

Johanson previously was director of construction with the Charles H. Shaw Co., during which time he worked on the $180-million renovation of the Conrad Hilton. Before that he was with Hyatt Hotel Corp. He will be responsible for the development and operation of the company’s hotel projects in the county.
