CIE Signs Distribution Agreement With Lazersoft

CIE Systems Inc. of Irvine said it signed a $7-million agreement with a Seattle company that will distribute CIE’s optical disk-based data filing and retrieval system.

CIE, a subsidiary of C. Itoh Electronics Inc. in Los Angeles, said it hopes the multi-year agreement with Lazersoft Inc. will be worth $3.2 million during the first year. Lazersoft will begin selling the laser system in the Pacific Northwest and will expand into California and eventually market the product nationwide, CIE said.

The laser system, which was introduced in June as the C. Itoh filing system, previously had been sold exclusively under private-label agreements. The company estimates that it will be competing in a multibillion-dollar-a-year industry by 1990.
