A five-day-old sickout by Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies seeking higher pay widened, and Wendell Phillips, president of the Deputy Sheriff’s Assn., claimed that 95% of the force was off the job. Phillips said, however, that he was encouraged by a letter from county negotiator Daniel Bonebrake that indicated the county would increase its offer of a 2.6% pay raise for the 1,100 deputies.
