Baldwin Park : Sierra Vista Up for Vote
Voters will decide the fate of the disputed Sierra Vista Redevelopment project in the Nov. 4 election. Petitions circulated by opponents of the project have acquired signatures of more than 10% of Baldwin Park’s 14,496 registered voters, as required to qualify a referendum measure for the ballot, according to the city clerk’s office.
The Sierra Vista project, which covers 623 acres along both sides of the San Bernardino Freeway, is Baldwin Park’s sixth and largest redevelopment area.
Opponents, who object to its effect on homeowners, persisted with the petition effort even after the city exempted 1,500 homes in the area from redevelopment.
