The manufacturer of a new high-tech combat helmet worn by 500,000 soldiers and Marines released a statement from the Defense Logistics Agency saying it was withdrawing previous government criticism of the company’s work. The Army last year said an unacceptable weak spot might appear on the top of the helmet and began investigating whether Gentex cut corners in production to save about $42 of the $85.20 paid for each helmet. The DLA statement released by Gentex said the allegations were “unfounded” and reiterated that the helmet’s design meets safety standards.
