De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Ltd. has “penetrated the Canadian market” for commuter aircraft with the sale of 42 Dash-8 commuter planes to five regional airlines, a de Havilland spokesman said.

In addition, the bulk purchase contracts, which include an option for 10 additional planes, “will keep the ball rolling for the Dash-8,” spokesman John Davy said.

The former government-owned corporation would not reveal the value of the sale to Air Ontario, Austin Airways, Time Air, Air Manitoba and Air Creebec.

The contracts involve both the Series 100 plane, which has 36 to 40 seats, and the new Series 300 with 50 to 56 seats.
