The Food and Drug Administration said consumers in 10 states have bought a French cheese, Morbier Rippoz, that may contain Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria found in Mexican-style cheeses that killed 84 people in California last year. The FDA said it is searching for 56 uncoded wheels of the cheese, but believes some of it may be in the hands of consumers. A recall has been issued in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Texas, Vermont, Maine and Massachusetts.
