Two 4-year-olds playing with a cigarette lighter caused a fire that burned a Ramona home and injured a resident, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
At 2 p.m., firefighters from Ramona, Poway, San Diego and the California Department of Forestry, responded to a two-alarm fire on Voorhes Lane in Ramona. Joaquin C. Ojeda, 39, suffered burns on his hand when he tried to throw a burning mattress out of the house. Fire officials said two children had ignited the mattress by playing with a cigarette lighter.
The fire caused $140,000 in damage to the structure and contents of the house, a fire official said.
