The World : Pakistan Riot Toll Up to 8
Pakistan riot police fired on hundreds of supporters of jailed opposition leader Benazir Bhutto, killing at least one and injuring 14 in the fifth straight day of clashes in the southern port of Karachi. The death brought to eight the number of those killed since violent protests against the military government of President Zia ul-Haq broke out Wednesday. About 220 people, some of them policemen, have been injured. An opposition coalition urged protests against shootings by police and called for presidential elections in the fall.
