Nine people, including a Sherman Oaks man, were charged Monday with operating a stolen-car ring based in Rhode Island.
The 125-count indictment was returned by a Providence grand jury against Steve Canario, 28, and eight other men. Canario’s father, Frank Canario Sr., 48, of Bristol, R.I., was described by authorities as the “kingpin” of the operation. Steve Canario’s brother, Frank Canario Jr. of Bristol, R.I., also was named.
The men are accused of stealing at least 40 cars in Rhode Island and selling them in several states and Canada. The charges include racketeering, receiving stolen goods, breaking and entering and conspiracy to steal, authorities said.
