Share

“Homemade pies are always the best,” Keiko Nakao writes. “But this takes very little time to make in comparison with making a pie. The recipe came from a neighbor, a warmhearted Irish lady.” TERRIFIC APPLE CRUNCH

5 green apples

1/4 cup water

1 cup plus 3 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 cup flour

1 egg

1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted

Whipped cream or ice cream

Peel apples and slice into thin wedges. Place in bottom of 12x7-inch baking dish. Add water. Sprinkle with 3 tablespoons granulated sugar and brown sugar.

In bowl, mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour and egg. Blend until crumbly. Sprinkle over apples. Pour melted butter over. Bake at 375 degrees 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm, if desired, and top with whipped cream or ice cream. Makes 6 servings.
