Santa Fe Springs : Auto Row Designated
The City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, last week designated property on Firestone Boulevard between Shoemaker and Bloomfield avenues as an automobile dealership area.
“We want to go on record and say, ‘This is what we want to see here,’ ” said Richard Weaver, director of planning and development.
Two auto dealers have shown interest in locating dealerships along the boulevard, Weaver said, although he declined to identify them because talks are preliminary. He said there would be enough room for four dealerships on properties there, including a site tentatively slated for a motel or hotel.
“We didn’t think we would ever get involved” in attracting auto dealerships, Weaver said, referring to the nearby cities of Norwalk, Downey and Cerritos, which have plans for auto rows or actual auto rows in place.
It is estimated that the total annual sales tax to the city from an auto row on Firestone could bring in $1 million to $2 million.
