Leaf Blowers

With reference to James P. Ashby’s letter (Aug. 14), “Leaf Blowers,” he might be interested to know that the Los Angeles City Council voted on Aug. 12 by 9 to 5 to defeat a measure to ban the blowers in Los Angeles.

Apparently the Southern California Gardeners’ Federation, Inc. convinced them that time was needed to adapt new sound-muffling systems and motor technology to the leaf blowers, plus to enforce guidelines for the use of the leaf blowers.
