An Israeli air force delegation will travel to Washington today to meet with Pentagon officials to discuss possible alternatives to the costly, U.S.-financed Lavi jet fighter, Israel radio reported. A Pentagon spokesman confirmed the meetings without giving details. The multimillion-dollar, Israeli-designed Lavi (Lion)is a state-of-the art, supersonic fighter resembling the U.S. F-16. With production yet to begin, the project has already cost $1.2 billion, almost all of it paid by Washington.
