KARS, Turkey —
Five children were killed Saturday when a military shell they found in the countryside exploded as they were carrying it to their father, an official said.
The father was injured and three horses were killed, according to the official.
The children, who ranged in age from 9 to 16, were cutting grass when they found the shell in the town of Sarikamis, the town’s governor, Kadri Oner, said.
Bomb experts were trying to determine the type of the shell, Oner said.
