Darrell Waltrip continued his domination of Bristol International Raceway Saturday night, taking the lead with 143 laps left and cruising to an 8.7-second victory over Terry Labonte in the Busch 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race.

The victory was the 10th of Waltrip’s career on the .533-mile, high-banked oval, one more than Cale Yarborough has here.

Waltrip, of Franklin, Tenn., earned $41,725 for the win, his second of the season and 69th of his career. He averaged 86.934 m.p.h as there were six caution periods.

“They’re few and far between, but they’re sweeter this way,” said Waltrip, the defending Cup champion, second in this year’s point standings to Dale Earnhardt.

Earnhardt slammed into the wall on the front straightaway on lap 355, but still finished fourth.
