Deere & Co. shut down production at 10 plants.

Share

A strike by 4,300 members of the United Auto Workers at three Deere plants resulted in the idling of an estimated 13,000 UAW members when the company shut down production at the other plants. The union accused Deere, a leading maker of farm tractors and implements, of locking out non-striking workers. Deere denied the allegation, contending that it was forced to stop production because the other plants receive essential components from two of the three strikebound plants. No bargaining is scheduled.
