1,000 Haitians Return Home, U.N. Aide Says

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti —
At least 1,000 Haitian political refugees in the Dominican Republic have returned to Haiti following the February ouster of President Jean-Claude Duvalier, a U.N. official said.
The latest group of 105 refugees returned Saturday aboard five buses to the provincial city of Malpasse, said U.N. official Flor Rojas-Rodriguez, a Dominican attorney.
An estimated 300,000 Haitians live in the Dominican Republic. Most are illegal immigrants seeking jobs in the neighboring Caribbean country, Rojas-Rodriguez said.
