About a dozen South-Central area ministers intend to lead a religious campaign to help find the so-called South Side Slayer, wanted in the deaths of 17 women, as well as to address the area’s high-crime and drug problems. The ministers will take their “pulpits to the streets,” said the Rev. Charles Mims, a Baptist minister who is at the forefront of the effort. “We feel that law enforcement and government alone cannot clean up the inner city,” Mims told a press conference. He said the ministers will hold prayer meetings outside known drug “rock houses” in their neighborhoods and encourage their congregations to become more active in reporting crime. The ministers’ group has also scheduled an anti-crime rally for Sept. 6 at Will Rogers Park.
