Frances Christine Peterson has brought new dimensions to the term “big baby.” She weighed in at 13-pounds, 1-ounce at birth.

Stanford University Hospital nurses said that the newborn they helped bring into the world Wednesday night is the biggest baby in the memory of employees, but she’s three pounds shy of the world record.

“I expected about 11 pounds,” said her surprised mother, Roxanne Peterson.

The baby had a regular birth and not a Caesarean, despite her size. Stanford spokeswoman Becky Berntson said Friday that young Frances is healthy and probably will go home with her mother today.

Roxanne and Samuel Peterson of San Jose have two sons, both of whom weighed more than 9 pounds at birth.
