Father Charles Curran, declaring he will be a Catholic theologian “no matter what happens,” said he is formally appealing the Vatican’s attempt to fire him from the theological faculty at Catholic University in Washington. The embattled priest, whose dissent on sexual issues led to the Vatican action, made no predictions of success for his appeal within the university system, but has said he would welcome the chance it would give him to air the issues.
