The Region : Man Slain by Suspected Gang Members
A man was attacked and killed on a Hollywood street by four suspected gang members, police said. The victim, identified only as a Redlands man in his 40s, died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after being shot several times, stabbed and hit with a bottle by four assailants who had approached him and a companion in the 6700 block of Willoughby Avenue, Lt. Neil Zachary said. The two men were walking on the street near Highland Avenue when they were approached by a group of men who said they were having car trouble and asked to borrow money. When the pair refused, one man swung a bottle at them and a struggle ensued, Zachary said. One of the men broke loose and ran to a nearby after-hours dance club for help. When he returned with a security guard, he found his companion slumped on the sidewalk. Police believe the four assailants fled in a beige-colored car.
