TURN-ONS AND TURN-OFFS IN CURENT HOME ENTERTAINMENT RELEASES : VIDEOCASSETTES
“Martha Graham: Three Contemporary Classics.” VAI. $59.95. Telecast two years ago on the PBS “Dance in America” series, this studio-taped Danish production is scandalously insensitive to dance values. Producer/director Thomas Grimm undercuts both choreography and performances with ruinous close-ups, intrusive reaction shots, disorienting editing and shoddy production values, reducing Graham’s “Errand Into the Maze” (danced by Terese Capucilli and Larry White), “Acts of Light” (featuring Peggy Lyman and George White Jr.) and “Cave of the Heart” (with Takako Asakawa and Donlin Foreman) to confusing video snippets.
