San Juan Capistrano : Packard Plans Meeting for Students in Seminar
U.S. Rep. Ron Packard (R-Carlsbad) will hold a reception here Thursday for the 15 south Orange County high school students who took part in June in an annual weeklong seminar in American government he sponsors in Washington, D.C.
The participating students were from San Clemente High, Dana Hills High, Capistrano Valley High, Mission Viejo High, El Toro High, Trabuco Hills High, Laguna Hills High, Capistrano Valley Christian School and St. Margaret’s Episcopal School.
“The American government seminar program is unique in that it provides high school students an opportunity to see first-hand how their country is governed,” said Packard. “In many cases, the program has dramatically changed the lives of these students and has obviously made them more aware of the world around them.”
While in Washington, the students had briefings and seminars at the State Department, the Pentagon, the Senate and the House of Representatives. They also visited the headquarters of the Organization of American States and the Israeli Embassy.
The expenses for the students’ participation were paid by businesses in Orange County, the students’ families and school organizations.
