A 22-year-old Marine from Camp Pendleton died Sunday evening when he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding on Interstate 5 in Oceanside, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
The Marine, whose name was withheld until relatives could be notified, was northbound near Hill Street about 6 p.m. when he hit the guardrail and was thrown some 55 feet off the side of the freeway, a CHP spokeswoman said.
No one else was injured in the crash, she said.
