A 23-year-old Bellflower man walking outside his home was shot to death by sheriff’s deputies after he fired his shotgun at them and raised his weapon to fire a second round, deputies said. Four deputies rushed to the 10300 block of Trabuco Street just before 2 a.m. when a witness reported seeing man with a gun. The deputies said they found Michael DeWaal, a shotgun in his arms, at the rear of a driveway between his home and a neighbor’s house. DeWaal fired one shot at the arriving deputies and was preparing to fire a second when a deputy fired at him, a sheriff’s spokesman said. None of the deputies was hit, but DeWaal died several hours later in surgery at Charter Suburban Hospital in Bellflower.
