Avalon : City to Insure Preschool

A longtime cooperative preschool that lost its liability insurance when the city’s insurance was not renewed in June will be taken over by the city Community Services Department.

Preschool Learning for Avalon Youth, which had been covered by the city’s insurance, will now be covered by the city’s self-insurance group, the California Municipal Insurance Authority.

The city will operate the school for six months at a cost of about $7,500. During that time, City Manager John Longley said, parents in the cooperative will seek state licensing and separate insurance.
