After pounding UCLA, 38-3, Oklahoma remained a runaway leader in the Associated Press college football poll. Miami of Florida moved up to No. 2 ahead of Michigan, which did not play.

The Sooners collected 55 of 59 first-place votes and 1,175 of a possible 1,180 points from a nation-wide panel. Miami, 2-0, received one first-place vote after defeating No. 13 Florida. Oklahoma visits Miami Sept. 27 in an attempt to make up for the only loss the Sooners had on their way to the 1985 national championship.

After Michigan in the AP poll are Alabama and Penn State.
