Rosemead : Bomb-Scare Arraignment

Share

A 24-year-old Rosemead man will face charges in Alhambra Municipal Court next week for allegedly planting phony bomb-like devices at the K-Mart store where he worked. Gary D. Ayala, who was employed as a security officer at the Rosemead store, is accused of planting the devices inside the building on two occasions last month and then making telephone calls from within the store warning K-Mart personnel about the bombs, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. William Holliman.

Sheriff’s deputies, who evacuated the store on both occasions, arrested Ayala after questioning him after the second incident. Officials found that the devices contained explosive powder, but were incapable of being detonated. Ayala, who is free on $5,000 bail, is scheduled for arraignment on Monday. If convicted, he could receive a maximum sentence of four years in prison.
