Pomona : Cal Poly Offers TV Classes

American Cablesystems’ nearly 6,000 subscribers in the Pomona area can now receive college credit for classes they watch on their home television sets. Through Cal Poly Pomona’s video network, which already broadcasts entry-level university courses to students at 18 high schools in the Los Angeles area, cable subscribers can study such subjects as engineering, music and psychology.

Registration is open until Sept. 22. Students, who will be able to talk to instructors by telephone for immediate questions, will pick up textbooks, written materials and homework at Pomona high schools. Some courses may require students to go to the Cal Poly campus for mid-term or final exams, but all regular class sessions will be transmitted directly via American Cablesystems’ Channel 30.
