Maureen Reagan to Be GOP Co-Chairman With Dad’s Help
With a little help from her father, Maureen Reagan is about to become co-chairman of the Republican Party.
A statement issued today by the party said that “President Reagan indicated he was supportive of the candidacy of Maureen Reagan to the position of co-chairman of the RNC. The election will be held at the winter meeting of the RNC in January in Washington, D.C.”
Party Chairman Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr. said he joined President Reagan in endorsing Maureen Reagan’s candidacy. He said Maureen, who has been his special consultant for women’s campaign activities, “has served the President and the Republican Party with distinction for a great many years.”
The First Daughter will succeed Betty Heitmann, who plans to leave the post next January.
Reagan met with Fahrenkopf on Thursday and his recommendation ended any possibility that there would be a contest for the job, the highest post a woman holds within the party organization.
