Ray Miller was fired as manager of the Minnesota Twins Friday, and Tom Kelly, the Twins’ third base coach, was named interim manager.

Miller’s firing was announced by club President Howard Fox.

Under Miller, the 1986 Twins had a 59-80 record and were 21 1/2 games behind the Angels in the American League West.

Miller, 41, took over as manager on June 21, 1985, after Billy Gardner was dismissed. Miller guided the club to a 50-50 record and a fourth-place finish.
